Davul

A large oriental drum. Ist origins can be traced back to biblical Babylon. Nowadays the drum can be found as far spread as India, but is most commonly known to us in the form of the Turkish Davul.
The drum is held in front of the player and the two skin sides are played with different drum sticks - the treble side with a willowstick and the bass side with a large wooden drumstick.


We make the Davul out of a lightweight wooden body. The skins are stretched between two rings (one metal, one wood) as previously described and these are thonged together. We only use goat skins on the Davul in order to maintain ist virtuosity. Wooden pegs inserted into the thonging around the drum are used to tune the drum to the required tone level.
We use goatskins and cowskins.
For the high sound, which is played by a switch we use thin goatskin as pergament, for the bass sound we use natural goatskin with hair or cowskin.
High tone levels as well as deep bass tones can be achieved by altering size and tension.

Decoupled Davul

At the traditional Davul the skins are streched together. So it is not possible to stretch one skin without the other skin.

To solve this problem we have eveloped a new system of covering. Here the string is fixed to the body of the drum. (image down)

So it is possible to tune one site without the other one.

We are offering different sizes of Davul:

The favorites are 48 and 52 cm diameter.
The colour you can choose between a light Teak and a dark nut-tree.
