The duduk is a traditional instrument from Armenia.

The sounds are produced by a large double-reed. But the sound is not typical of a double-reed instrument like the shawm or oboe. Rather, it produces a warm, soft low tone, rather like the chalumeau.

It is precisely this unique deep, soft, warm sound that makes this instrument stand out . The melodies on the duduk sound dreamy, melancholic, picturesque.

The duduk offered here has 7 fingerholes and one hole for the thumb and plays the scale over an octave similar to a recorder.

The rather thick reed has to be soaked a little before playing.  The ferrule at the upper end is a protection during transport and presses the reed together again when drying after playing.
